Cravings!
I am not sure if guys get them, but I know we ladies do. What am I talking about? CRAVINGS! I know there are times when my daughters would almost kill for chocolate!
Sometimes I feel like I HAVE to have some Chunky Monkey ice cream! I don't even care that a pint costs around ten bucks here in Denmark!
When I was pregnant with my first child, I think I ate a tomato sandwich on a toasted English muffin every single day! That is what I craved! Sadly, with my second, it was Oreos!
We all have appetites. Some of them may be healthy, and others may not. We all have different taste buds. My husband likes really, REALLY HOT food. I just cannot put that in my mouth!
Besides cravings for food, people can also develop an appetite for gaming, tanning, alcohol or shopping, etc. These can become a problem if they start taking more and more time and money. They can be addicting and extremely unhealthy as well.
(Mat.5:6 KJV) Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
There are actually some things we SHOULD hunger for. Most of us may not realize that our spirits can have cravings, too. I once heard a pastor say that sometimes people THINK they are bored or hungry, when in actuality, it is their SPIRIT crying out to spend time with God. Hmmm..... something to think about, huh? Most of us are not that in tune with our spirits to know if they are hungry for something.
(Job 23:12 NLT) I have not departed from His commands, but have treasured His words more than daily food.
I love these lyrics by the group PASSION:
Lord I want more of You. Living water rain down on me
Lord I need more of You. Living breath of life come fill me up
We are hungry. We are hungry
We are hungry for more of You
We are thirsty, oh Jesus! We are thirsty for more of YouDo we hunger after God? Do we long to spend time with Him? Do we have a desire to spend time reading His word each day? I honestly believe that we can get so busy with all the other things in life (The good, the bad and the ugly!) that we keep pushing this desire aside. We get distracted. We fail to see we are starving ourselves spiritually. We don't "feel good," and we have little peace or patience but we don't understand why.
(Jer. 15:16 NLT) "When I discovered Your words, I devoured them. They are my joy and my heart's delight... "
Most people spend a LOT of money and time on their bodies. We dress them, feed them, exercise them and give them pleasure. We shave them, tan them, pluck them, tattoo them, perfume them... and on and on! We do all this for something that lasts, on average, around 75-85 years.
Did you know that your spirit lives forever? Yes, it does. You get to pick its final destination now by the choices you make. You can live with God in Heaven when your body dies, or...... not. It just seems to me that we should give a bit more time and attention to the part of us that will live on.
What do you think?

There is craving inside of us for God, it's a craving only He can fill.
ALL I want is Him ~ truly ~ just wish I remembered that sometimes. For He is the only One Who will ever satisfy our inner longings ~
Hi, Mae
Loved your post. I meet with God every morning, but my hunger is missing---I guess it is due to not going to church.
Frank
I love this post! I wrote something on my Xanga today that's along similar lines -- would you read it and let me know what you think? Thanks
i'm one of those funny people that gets stuck on one thing and will eat it every day until i'm sick of it...
right now it's chips and salsa. for awhile it was hotdogs. but that one didn't last long.
i've heard so many others talk about chunky monkey ice cream, but have never tried it.
at times i feel so stale in my appetite for God. i want to go deeper w/ HIm, but it's so easy to grow complacent.
oh, to have that hunger and thirst for Him - as much as i do all my silly cravings!
thanks again for the encouragement, mae!
Yearning to be closer to God, compells me in many ways.
@ANVRSADDAY - We started attending a church about three years ago that changed my hunger for the nearness I always wanted to have. The WORD is so tender yet so completely transforming truly I have been renewed by the power of the Holy Spirit which uses the Word of God to do that marvelous redemptive work. I will be praying that you also will be set on fire as Spurgeon said to the young student who asked him, "How do you get people to hunger for Jesus"? Spurgeon's reply set yourself on fire and people will come to watch you burn. That's what I want for my life!
Blessings, You are one very special man Frank thank you for being my friend here.
'Let me burn out for Thee, dear Lord.' A song we sang years ago. I still like it.
RYC - Awww, poor girls. I wonder if they eat fish now?
@Shepherdsfold - Thanks for your testimony. My wife loves Spurgeon. I appreciate you and know one day that hunger will be back

do you notice that we don't crave things that are good for us unless their is a prize after it.
I can go walking in the evening if I know there will be a reward for me (cookie or fudgecycle)at the end of it.
Helping others has a reward but it's not till afterwards and it's not as instant as a cookie so it's a bang in the butt to think about and we have to go ahead and just do it and believe that we will feel better in the long run.
discipling a younger person is a good way to get the hunger back. Trying to answer all those questions not only sharpens your heart but creates an appetite too.
Your posts always have something "meaty" in them. Thanks!!
