  • Just Two Words

(Psalm 37:3 NLT)  Trust in the LORD and do good. Then you will live safely in the land and prosper.

Do good. Seems pretty simple. Just two words.

(Psalm 34:14 NLT)  Turn away from evil and do good. Search for peace, and work to maintain it.

Do good. Have you ever had one of those moments when you realized how something you said or did started a reaction that was anything BUT good? Have you ever traced your actions back to the place where.... OH! That's where this all started! Oh! If only I had not said that! If only I had not done that!

Maybe we need to take time to examine our actions and words and ask ourselves, "Is what I am going to do or say going to produce something GOOD? Will it encourage a sense of peace? Is it merciful? Is it even true? Is my motivation for saying/doing it GOOD?"

The Bible says Jesus "went about doing good.." (Acts 10:38) Doesn't it make sense that those of us who love and follow Him should do the same? Yet, it seems like there is no end of conflict, competition and disagreement swirling around in the Body of Christ. Oh! It makes me sad.

(Luke 6:27 NLT)  "But to you who are willing to listen, I say, love your enemies! Do good to those who hate you.

If Jesus tells us to love our enemies, and do good to them surely, we should treat our brothers and sisters as well!

(Luke 6:36 NLT)  You must be compassionate, just as your Father is compassionate.

Get out there today and DO GOOD!

  • I hate it, but yes, I have had those moments. Shocked at the reaction something I said had, but you can't in-say it and they can't un-hear it. I try to be more careful now.

  • do good is a good order

we have a prayer group and there is one gal who can't take her turn but interupts everyone and talks all the time and just hollars out inappropriate questions. Well, we have all be keeping quiet hoping we can get her to take her turn an not comment on what everyone says. It hasn't worked and finally one of the others said,"you really need to be quiet and listen and wait till it's your turn because I come to the prayer group to share and I am upset when I leave lately."

The gal apologized and said I'm sorry but I've never been able to keep quiet and I'll appriciate you telling me.

After the meeting I congradulated both of them for what they said and I know it took a lot of strength to say what they said,

Maybe we will go back to a peaceful prayer meeting cause we like the gal and want her to stay.

I one who confronted her said that her heart was pounding cause she knew the rest of the group would hate her.

  • @Babyboomerjill - Sometimes it takes a lot of courage to do the right thing!

  • Do Good. That sounds too simple. lol

My first church experience after being born again wanted us to be sure we were saved by faith and not by our good works. lol They meant well, but it inhibited the clear teaching of Eph. 2:10. They love verses 8 and 9. lol

Obviously, Christians should be doing good--whether you feel like it or not. lol

  • Sounds easy enough...

  • Love this post, thank  you for it! The virtues are rooted in goodness and in love, HIS Goodness and His Love. I never quite understood why it is so hard for some people to just "do good"; to not lie, cheat, steal, etc. It's easy but many times goes against that "do what makes you happy regardless of what others think or feel" mentality.

  • Thanks for the reminder.

  • yes to all that. though it's hard

  • :)
