  • Paid in Full

dungeon I crouched filthy, alone and wretched in the darkness of my prison waiting for them to call my name. I was condemned to die. I knew it was what I deserved, and it was just a matter of time. My sin weighed heavy upon my heart, and I could not keep my mind from wondering what it would be like to experience the punishment I had earned. My stomach churned and sweat drops rolled down my face as I contemplated the painful death ahead of me. And then what? Is that the end? Death and then.... nothing?

And then I heard it. The men were coming for me. I heard their heavy tread and knew soon I would be facing my agony. The key was in the lock and the door swung open letting in the light. I squinted up at my captors, my heart beating wildly.

"You’re free to go," the tall one said in a gruff voice.

    "Wha......?"

"I said, You’re free to go," he repeated as he hauled me roughly to my feet. The other one released the shackles from my wrists and ankles.

    "I don’t understand," I stammered.

"Someone has agreed to die in your place," he sneered as he shoved me ahead of him out of the cell.

And there I was. Standing on the street in the sunshine. Free.

  • My dad only made one comment about religion. People were shopping in our store on Easter ad looking wonderful in their new clothes. They were excited about Easter. When they left, He said, 'Frankie, they should spend more time thinking about what happened on Friday.' I hope he found faith along the way.

  • great post! You reminded me of that hymn "I Should Have Been Crucified." Happy Resurrection Sunday!

  • Have a blessed Easter, Mae ~

  • I call that saved by grace

  • Dr. Luke gave us an actual prescription on how to be saved: Luke 23:

39 One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: “Aren’t you the Messiah? Save yourself and us!”

40 But the other criminal rebuked him. “Don’t you fear God,” he said, “since you are under the same sentence? 41 We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.”

42 Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.]"="">[d]”

    43

Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.”
