  • What Are You Doing?

It seems like I meet so many people these days who don’t have much passion for what they do. I don’t think it should matter if you are serving french fries at Micky D’s or doing brain surgery, if you are a Christian, your life and work are an offering to God, and you should not do a lousy job. My Bible says, "Serve the Lord with gladness." (Psalm 100:2)

Even if right now, the events of your life have you working the check out line at Wal-Mart, shoveling snow from driveways or mopping floors, or some other job you don’t particularly like, you need to determine in your heart that you are going to be the best check out person/snow removal specialist/floor mopper you possibly can.

"Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might......" Ecclesiastes 9:10 AMP

Look at the life of Joseph. He started out as the pampered, favorite son of his father, and then things seemed to go downhill! His brothers hated him and sold him into slavery. Well, he decided to be the best doggone slave he could be, and he got promoted. Great! Well, then guess what happened. His boss’s wife got the hots for him, and when he wouldn’t play along, she lied about him and he ended up in prison. Well, he decided he would be the best prisoner in the whole jail! You know the story.

Joseph didn’t waste his energy whining about what a rotten deal he was given. He spent his time "doing what his hands found to do with all his might." God promoted him. God honored him. God used him to save a nation.

What kind of job are you doing? Who are you representing?

  • Food for thought for me on this Monday morning. Very good .

  • Yes, and amen!

  • Thanks so much for sharing this Meg...God's timing is so perfect.  I had been thinking about looking for a job change, because my "job" was not all I wanted it to be....after reading this, I am so grateful I have a job.  I am working for the LORD!!!!  Love it.  Thanks again for your wonderful ministry!

  • This post hit the roofing nail right on the head. Roofing sucks. The weather here sucks, most of the time. The work is hard. The conditions are miserable. But it is what I do, and by gum I intend to be the best at it I can be!

I tell this to a lot of young men just starting out as roofers.

It doesn't matter if you are a doctor or a garbage collector, you have to be the best you can be and consider it the "Higher calling of our daily work". All to often we get caught up in thinking we deserve a better hand than we have been dealt, and then fold before the game even begins. There is no joy in sitting on your tush watching everybody else play like they are winners.

God calls us to serve in many ways. Sometimes we simply toss bread crumbs to the birds other times we organize a major food drive for the needy. Sometimes we sweep the floors in the basement, others times we paint the Creation story on the ceiling of a chapel.

Good reminder of a post Mrs Mae!

  • I am laughing. I am 'required' to take care of my MIL--the quintessence of human crankiness. lol  Did Joseph have a mother-in-law? I guess he did. lol

I do need to be more joyful. She is my only job. My wife is not a job--more of a labor of love.

well, you nailed me today. I have to figure out how to enjoy what I am doing.

    blessings
    frank

  • I'm laughing with Frank above me-did Joseph have a mil? lol

being retired I guess everything I do is my gift to God.

  • Amen! 1 Cor. 10:31

  • It's not always easy but it is what we are called to do...everything as unto the Lord! Sometimes I have to repeat that over and over in my to straighten my thinking and attitude out!

  • Thanks for the reminder. Keeping that in mind will/should add meaning to tasks.

  • Yes! Spazzz and Tude are lovable aren't they? SO - are YOU!
