  • "Yawn"

    We will be participating in our church's summer camp for the next week. (It starts today) I will keep to my regular posting schedule, but I probably won't be around to visit you much. Blessings on your weekend and the week following!
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Complacency is defined as: A feeling of contentment or self-satisfaction, especially when coupled with an unawareness of danger, trouble, or controversy.
    Being complacent is dangerous, but easy. Don’t make waves. Chill. Be cool. Don’t rock the boat. Go with the flow. Perhaps this is just what the enemy of our souls would like. If we become lulled into a sense of complacency, we are not doing anything. We are not reaching out. We are just being swept along by the current of this sin-sick world. We are not standing up for anything. We have no
    passion. We become lukewarm.
    We must keep in mind that the enemy does not rest. While we may be content in our present circumstances, the enemy is at work. How sad it is when tragedy strikes and we suddenly wake and ask, “How did this happen?”
    One of the most convicting songs I have ever heard was written by Keith Green and is entitled “Asleep in the Light.” As I read the lyrics this morning, my heart was stirred, and I asked God to help me stay strong, awake and alert. I do not want to become complacent to the condition of those around me. I want to see the world through my Father’s eyes.
    Do you see, do you see, all the people sinking down,
    Don't you care, don't you care, are you gonna let them drown?
    How can you be so numb, not to care if they come,
    You close your eyes and pretend the job's done.
    "Oh, Bless me Lord, bless me Lord," you know it's all I ever hear,
    No one aches, no one hurts, no one even sheds one tear,
    But He cries, He weeps, He bleeds, and He cares for your needs,
    And you just lay back and keep soaking it in, oh, can't you see it's such sin?
    Cause He brings people to your door, and you turn them away, as you smile and say,
    God bless you, be at peace, and all Heaven just weeps,
    Cause Jesus came to your door, you've left Him out on the streets.
    Open up, open up, and give yourself away,
    You've seen the need, you hear the cry, so how can you delay?
    God's calling and you're the one, but like Jonah you run,
    He's told you to speak, but you keep holding it in,
    Oh, can't you see it's such sin?
    The world is sleeping in the dark,
    That the church can't fight, cause it's asleep in the light,
    How can you be so dead, when you've been so well fed,
    Jesus rose from the grave, and you, you can't even get out of bed!
    Sometimes I wonder if the sin of what we DON’T do, is worse than the bad things we DO do. It’s just a thought.
    Let’s not be complacent!
    I think I've met way too many complacent people.
    'Sometimes I wonder if the sin of what we DON’T do, is worse than the bad things we DO do. It’s just a thought'  ~ Wow.....what a thought!!
    Ouch.  It's true.  Even among my own family, there's so much more I could do.  I had the idea to do a VBS for my grandchildren, great grand-daughter and their friends.  I might have just thought about it until summer was over.  Now I think I will call the mamas (today) and see if they have an available week.  Thanks for the nudge.
    The silent majority are asleep. I think they're waking up? I hope. How do you pronounce the name of that town or place?!
  • DanishDoll
    @mcbery - I'm not sure what town or place you are referring to.
    What moving direct words in that song!!  It is amazing to me how relevant your posts are to exactly what is going on in my life.  I know you are not posting only for me.  It must be that God opens my eyes to what you are saying.  I have had a "burden" as they say, for the elderly.  I know why it's called a burden because it is like a weight.  It's when something is laying on your heart and mind.  You know that you could do something about it.  Oh, maybe not a huge difference but even a little would be good.  Yes, as the song says, I have seen the need and heard the cry so I cannot delay.
    The world truly is sleeping in the dark.
    (It seems I have blogged on your blog Mae but it couldn't be helped)
    Amen. Sometimes I feel badly that I am not doing more...but, I know this is our waiting season. I'm eager for it to be concluded, though - so that we can get to the work He has for us!
    I believe God would call it 'lukewarm'. We are in a battle. I oftentimes forget that. Our pastor has said many times that if we were over in Iraq we would not be sitting around playing tiddly winks .. we'd be aware.. have our weapons ready to fight.  The fight starts in our hearts.. determining to obey God.. and then moves outward towards our nation. Our nation (US) is in serious trouble with God.. it all started in the hearts of men and women.
    Your comment on my blog was very true.. at least for me. I can't speak for anyone else. I was not trusting God and became aware of it. Thank you for making that point. I hope to talk about that next Friday.
    Have a glorious day IN HIM!
  • georgene
    I also wanted to say that Frances Chan's video on You Tube called, Lukewarm and Loving it, is very convicting and stirred my heart and my husbands.
  • quilt_cats
    Funny name of that town in your picture... is it real?  The lyrics are touching- complacency is deceptively easy, but the results come faster than we like to think.
  • PPhilip
    I have seen that name on the way to Las Vegas. No I don't know how to pronounce it.
    There are a couple of things I would like to add:
    1. Tanno or contentment is a good antidote to temptation and greed.
    2. Danish Doll is rallying the troops for us to fight various sins. While some folks are overstuffing themselves others are homeless and starving. As Christ mentioned his family is those that feed the starving and give water to them that are thirsty.
    3.Hate the sin and love the sinner. That takes getting out of your comfort zone and putting yourself out to love the sinner. However if you lay down with the dogs you are bound to get fleas.
    Wonderful post...really gives me food for thought in my life.  God Bless.
  • sez_who_sez_you
    I've seen that sign... out in Califunky near Yermo. Used to pass it all the time when we lived out there. Doug was stationed out there in Ft. Irwin.
  • mrsgrovine
    Good post, Mae.  I'm still kind-of around on Xanga.  Mary.
  • DanishDoll
    @PPhilip - That point about laying down with the dogs is a good one!
  • DanishDoll
    @txmom - You can blog on my blog any time! <3
  • theprettysister
    Good post....
    Have a great weekend.
  • Ponder_ing
    I think it's probably a little too easy to be complacecent in a lot of ways.  I konw I have seen that sign before - I just can't remember where...it's either in CA or Nevada... not that this is important... but it just bugs me lol!
  • Donkey_Guy_10
    Yes! The Strong Museum! Hmmmm.... Does Al-son exaggerate? I dunno!
  • SingingMom
    Complacency has gotten our country into the shape it's in now. Christians were comfortable and did not see what was going on around them. Worse yet, some thought it was not scriptural to get involved.
  • IamDonnaC
    I've been by that road!  And every time I see that sign I giggle and wonder who thought to fill out paperwork at city hall to get the road named Zzyzx  road.  LOL  Silliness entertains me!
    As for the POINT of this blog.. I am so right there with you.  This is a great thought and challenge to put out there.
  • UnworthyofHisgrace
    Yes, lukewarmness will cause spewing!  We don't want that. You know, maybe instead of asking to be blessed all the time, we should ask to be blessed thru trials!  Maybe then we would see and trully understand the blessing we receive. Being content is a good thing as long as it is contentment in ALL situations, good and bad!
  • Michellereneewrites4Christ
    Great post here, have fun at the Church camp
    In Christs Love
    your posts always challenge and encourage my heart. thanks so much.
    complacency is one of those things that i struggle with. it is easy for me to just go with the flow. let things happen without getting involved. it's easy for me to think that someone else will make the difference. but that is just what the enemy wants. he wants me to just do nothing. to be okay serving my own needs instead of others. that is a battle that i must win.
