(2Timothy 3:16 MSG) Every part of Scripture is God-breathed and useful one way or another--showing us truth, exposing our rebellion, correcting our mistakes, training us to live God's way.
Most of us don’t like to make mistakes. Mistakes can be costly or dangerous at their worst, and embarrassing at best. But, we all DO make mistakes, don’t we? And, probably, as long as we are alive, we will continue to do so. To live, is to make mistakes!
Having a right attitude concerning mistakes is important. They can help us grow, or they can destroy us. Some people prefer to deny that they make mistakes, and this is never a wise thing to do. It’s better to admit it and deal with it. I have a lot of respect for people who are willing to say, “Yep! I goofed. Sorry. What can I do to make it right?”
It’s important to learn from our mistakes. They can be wonderful learning experiences! Nothing teaches you what NOT to do better than doing it, and having to deal with the consequences! We need to stay teachable. We need to get what we can out of it and move on.
When training people for ministry, I don’t look for perfect people, I look for people of good character who are teachable – people who can receive correction without getting all bent out of shape, touchy and offended. These people will do well. It is healthy (and honest!) to admit that occasionally, we mess up. It’s usually not a big deal unless we make it a big deal.
It is best to be able to learn from our mistakes and move past them. Some go through life beating themselves up over things from their past they can do absolutely nothing about. They are held captive by their hurt, or pride or perfectionism, and it keeps them from moving on. They give their mistakes the power to shape their futures. How much more valuable it is to learn from our mistakes, and even from observing the mistakes of others. Learn and move on.
For me, mistakes have been my best teacher. From saying something wrong to doing something wrong to just plain being wrong. If you don't realize when you are wrong though and acknowledge it, then your growth gets stunted. Mistakes are all part of our sanctification. You are SOOO right, we need to stay teachable, because when we think we know it all, we actually have learn nothing!
yep, i goofed! sorry! =) i wholeheartedly agree Mae. there's no room for pride..we all fall short..every single day. lol
@UnworthyofHisgrace - this i recognize in you Grampy. this i think is why so many people, young and old, from all over look up to you and trust you. same thing with Mae. you're both so approachable and gracious with people, because people can tell that you are not proud and are grateful for God's grace that's been shown you.
Amen.
Good post Mae.
[thank you for all your hard work in my lil green patch....you must be so tired ]
Mistakes used to be difficult for me to deal with, because I wanted to be perfect. I am grateful that making mistakes has taught me to be realistic in my expectations for myself.
My dad use to tell me that my mistakes will either break me or make me... lot of truth in that.
I make a lot of mistakes and then I spend too much time agonizing about them. I have learned a lot from my mistakes and other's mistakes too. I used to think people my age were not making mistakes, when I was young.
very very good reminder!! I have learned from my mistake in not learning from mymistakes. I hurt others, but I pri hurt myself the most. Recently I had and experience that again taught me to always go back and say sorry when I know in my heart I did someone hurt, God speaks to me and I am so glad He does!!! We are never to wise or old to learn a good lesson from our mistakes. I want to stay teachable....always.
good message...good reminder that to live is to make mistakes...the important thing is to find the teachable moments.
I hate admitting when I make mistakes. Suspect it has something to with pride :)
at the catholic church the priest would say to bow our heads and ask for God's forgiveness and I would wait until ya'll were thru then one day in confession the priest asked for me to pray for him and I thought ,"oh,Lord." and then a funny thing happened I of all people made a big mistake;you see you can make mistakes but not me -of all people.
I had to humble myself back in 1987 and have been a human being since then.
"Learn and move on."
I think I *laugh*, learn and move on.
I do some of the dumbest things, sometimes; and, if you can't laugh at yourself . . .
I suspect that I am the queen of mistakes in life. Thank the Lord that He also gave me a sense of humor. It really helps. Sometimes, I think I can hear Him laughing too and saying "what were you thinking".
Thanks for the reminder Mae that we need to forgive ourselves as our Heavenly Father does.
I never make misteaks, but fi I did I woold be sure to corect them befor else anybody never found out.
ahhh.....good ole' HuMILiTy!!!!
"people who can receive correction without getting all bent out of shape, touchy and offended."
I think for many and myself included, it is hard to take correction when you or your flesh feels that you were in the right to begin with or that there might have been a better way to do something......Our Pride manifests itself and just gets in the way of the humility and openess that the Lord would have us hear and receive with.....
@Aloysius_son - You always know how to get me laughing, you silly guy!
Amen!
Great post. Learning from our mistakes is the key. Blessings.
....i thought i made a mistake once, but i was wrong....
Good post, Mae!
Grace is what has freed me from the fear of mistake-making. How I love grace.
